One Billion Rising!

14 / 02 / 2013

This month, Keeping It Reel celebrates the international One Billion Rising movement with this killer snap of an OBR flashmob in New York City.

Melbourne will join the international dance campaign ONE BILLION RISING TONIGHT, 14 February – dubbed ‘V-Day’ – as part of a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. This year, it will be the largest day of action in the history of the campaign.

The campaign has the support of Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who last week released a video endorsing the One Billion Rising movement & Australian events.

One Billion Rising began in 1998 as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.

The Melbourne event has the support and involvement of the Victorian Women’s Trust.

Come along and join us! The dance will begin at 6pm, Federation Square (Cnr Swanston St & Flinders St, Melbourne CBD). Check out the website for other One Billion Rising events around the country.
