A Smile from the Crowd

This terrific photo was taken by the brilliant Ponch Hawkes, of former Prime Minister Julia Gillard at the Victorian Women’s Trust’s recent ‘Credit Where Credit is Due’ event, held at the Melbourne Town Hall on 10 November. Ponch Hawkes has been the “resident” photographer of the Victorian Women’s Trust, which publishes ‘Sheilas‘, for much of the Trust’s life.  We’ve been keen to feature her work in this section for awhile now, and we’re delighted to be able to feature this particular image. It was taken at the end of the ‘Credit Where Credit is Due’ event, after the former PM had spoken to a crowd of two and a half thousand.

You can watch the entire event – Julia Gillard’s speech, Tony Windsor’s speech, the Women’s Anthem Love & Justice performance, and even a performance by Bronwyn Calcutt which put Gillard’s ‘misogyny’ speech to music – via the VWT’s new website, by clicking HERE.

We are currently working with Ponch Hawkes to make more images from the event publicly available.

Ponch Hawkes can be contacted via her website.
