This is a photograph taken by Beth Nokes at Sunday’s ‘Bust the Budget’ March in Melbourne, where tens of thousands of people turned out to express their objection towards the proposed federal budget. ‘March in May’ occurred in a number of other capital cities – including Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart.

Beth says “These budget cuts are upsetting because they are targeted towards some of society’s most vulnerable people; including students, Indigenous Australians, the unemployed, the sick and the elderly. The costs of this federal budget to the lives of these people far outweighs any benefits to the economy as far as I can tell.”
