Ed’s Note – Sheilas Goes Sporty!

22 / 09 / 2015

This month, stuff Sheilas goes sporty. It’s September after all, order and footy fever is in the air. And perhaps with it, just maybe, the whiff of change. Is women’s sport reaching tipping point? With smaller annual budgets than the blokes might drop on their end of season weekends away, Australian sportswomen are kicking goals, literally, figuratively, in the fight for equality, and on the international stage. They do us proud, but as Angela Pippos explains, pride ain’t quite enough. In many ways, sport is a microcosm of society and to achieve real change, we’ll need to (wo)man those action stations.

This month’s Bonza Sheila is Chloe Saltau, the first female Sports Editor of a major Australian newspaper. Amal Awad delights with her story about the fabulous Speed Sisters, wrecking their self styled havoc in Palestine’s West Bank. Karen Pickering talks the human supernova that is Serena Williams. Plus heaps more. Enjoy, Sheilas. And may all your teams come home for you this weekend.
