Ed’s Note

29 / 08 / 2016

This month for Sheilas August edition, we’ve centred on the theme of women’s health. The upcoming Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week is from 5-9 September and is a time to focus on our health, learn more and take action.

The Jean Hailes for Women’s Health foundation for Sheilas this month have described the importance of recognising specific challenges facing women’s health in Australia. Naomi Chainey discusses the implications that the NDIS has for women with invisible disabilities and how this needs to change.

We have two personal reflections this month with our Culture Club contributor, Jess Gleeson on her ‘feminist burn out,’ and the importance of recognising the issue and looking after ourselves. We welcome Masters graduate Louise Richards for openly sharing with us her diagnosis with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).

On a different note, we’re also celebrating 25 years of the incredible feminist publishing house, Spinifex Press! Thanks to Horacek for this brilliant cartoon in ode to the team at Spinifex Press. Scroll down below for a DOUBLE Bonza Sheila interview with the creators of Spinifex Press, Renate Klein and Susan Hawthorne!

Thanks to our legendary friends at UWA Publishing, we’ve got one copy of ‘Skin Deep’ by Liz Conor to giveaway.

To win your copy of ‘Skin Deep,’ email sheilas@vwt.org.au with the title of your favourite book.
